Women a mourning myth

‘WOMEN’- A MOURNING MYTH BEHIND THE MISTY ARUNACHAL PRADESH. Ms. Cheryl Antonette Dumenil, Assistant Professor, Holy Cross College, Trichy and Dr. Cheryl Davis, Assistant Professor, St. Joseph’s College, Trichy.  Abstract Arunachal Pradesh is  a North East Indian state filled with mist and glorifying myth of  its  own origins.  The region  has a vast cultural, linguistic, ethnic and religious background.  The people of this region are  united in a way though the states are filled with many differences.   The Northeast  part of India  has long been on the fringe of mainstream literary consciousness, edged out by its complex  sociopolitics , crisis of identity and the prolonged rule of the gun. Issues like nationality, identity, ethnicity has increased with the onset of globalization.  Apart from  the entire  crisis, women who were once considered sacred and worshipped are of late being trampled upon.  ...

Poem:Can there be a day I go without a sigh or cry?

Can there be a day I go without a sigh or cry?   Perhaps  Every awakening day- I decide to walk through it beautifully. Expecting to fill in my gratitude journal  And ah!  There I get frozen- in a crowded bus being molested by some stranger  and  Yes… I Sigh and cry.  Then I wonder.  Is my identity a reason?  Then again I wonder  Do I have an identity? I’m just a girl a woman, a female after all… To be used  For pleasure  and my pain goes in vain  and  Yes… I Sigh and cry.  But then I realise my responsibility,  as a Mother I nurture my son, to respect every girl, woman and female as his own sister, mother and grandmother.  I teach him and help him understand  that it hurts to be ill-treated no matter what gender you belong to.  I teach him To respect, love and care  And  Yes… I cry with joy for I’ve penned in my journal and I’m grateful for them all.

To the Chinese Restaurant- Anjum Hasan (Poem with Explanation)

Hi Friends, This blog is an attempt to help you understand the poem. I hope you read and enjoy. To The Chinese Restaurant We come in here from the long afternoon stretched over the town’s sloping roofs, its greasy garages and ice-cream parlours, its melancholic second-hand bookshops with their many missing pages. Out in the streets there are schoolboys with their ties askew and the garish fruit-sellers. We eat more than we need to. We eat so that our boredom’s no longer dangerous, so that from the comfort of soup, with the minor pleasures of chopsuey, we can fend off the memory of cities unvisited, unknown and unknowable affairs, people with never-fading lipstick and confident gestures who we will never be. One day soon we’ll be running, our lives will be like the blur seen from a bus, and we won’t read each other’s letters thrice. But right there ...
